Day Fifteen

Reports say that Government has estimated 50,000 ventilators are required by June. Globally, 5% of the patients have needed ventilators. It is a tacit admission that we can expect a peak number of at least one million cases by June end.

US CDC has now recommended wearing non-surgical masks in public spaces. This is based on a new study which shows that pathogen bearing droplets from a sneeze or cough can travel as far as 7-8 metres and can stay in the air for several minutes. Recommended physical distancing of 2 metres may not be safe enough always. Good to see so much science-based decisions implemented in double quick time.

The saddest news today is that a tiger at the Bronx zoo has tested positive. Nadia apparently caught the infection from her zoo-keeper.

Was able to access and read (actually listen) to this excellent story in The New Yorker, because they have taken them out from behind paywalls.
