Day Three

What an irony, that the most intelligent species on the planet has locked itself up inside homes and cowers in fear, while all the others enjoy life naturally. It wasn’t like this when we had more contagious scourges like plague and smallpox. Because there were no epidemiologists with “flattening the curve” concepts. With knowledge comes fear.
The maths behind Flattening the Curve.
Every magazine is taking down the paywalls and making the coronavirus related content free to read.

First 100,000 = 66 days Next 100,000 =12 days Next 100,000 = 4 days Next 100,000 = 2 days

Watched this sci-fi film In Time in which people stop ageing after 25, but have to buy time subsequently. Time is the currency and people trade with it. And trading is done by a handshake kind of gesture. Intriguing idea. The movie has this line – for a few to be immortal, many must die. I googled to see if it is an original. Apparently it is!

Even as I was thinking about investing, SENSEX surged 7% to 28,535 (+1862). Himanshu texted me to invest in tranches, in large cap or multicap funds. For the last few days, many of the anchors on CNBCTV18 are working from their homes. How quickly they have adapted. The voices go off occasionally, but the overall feel is fantastic. This could be the new normal even when the virus goes away. 2 days back, Aditya Puri, HDFC CEO said that 33% of his employees are working from their homes and this offers a fantastic cost-cutting opportunity.

One of the tragedies of COVID19 is China becoming the new global leader. It arouses even more suspicion that they would have daringly engineered this pandemic.

Skipped dinner today. One, to stretch my stocks. Second, in solidarity with the daily wage earners who may go hungry tonight. The middle-class obsession with food is disgusting.

Some people were tweeting that it takes 21 days to acquire a habit. Probably they have understood the message that this is only the first of the 21-day cycles. Wuhan lockdown is ending on 8th April after 10 weeks. That provides a template to others.
